Condominium Laws (New York State)

The New York State Legislature enacted the New York Condominium Act in 1964, (Laws of 1964, chapter 82, effective March 2, 1964). This has been amended several times since then. All condominiums are controlled by and subject to this statute.

The Condominium Act has been incorporated into the consolidated laws of New York, and has been designated as Article 9-B of the Real Property Law (abbreviated by lawyers as RPL). The covers a large number of topics other than condominium issues.

The Condominium Act starts with RPL section 339-d, then 339-e, and runs continuously to 339-z, then continues with 339-aa, then 339-bb, through 339-kk. It has a total of 34 sections.

Since all courts and attorneys agree with this numbering or citation system, and use it, we continue its use for convenience of reference.
